Syrian animal shelter has provided a home for over 1,000 cats
Ten years ago, the Syrian citizens took to the streets to demand democracy but instead got the war and the destruction of the country under the rule of a former authoritarian ruler.
The conflict, in which other countries of the Middle East, Russia, Turkey and the West got involved, has developed into the most acute humanitarian crisis of our time. Millions of Syrian children have never lived in peace. Hundreds of thousands of Syrians have been displaced from their homes by the ongoing war in the northwest of the country.
Due to families leaving their homes from the destroyed cities, many cats were left homeless. This is how they live now.
In 2015 Ala Al-Djalil opened his first shelter for cats, and now, in 2021 he owns 3 other shelters all across Syria. The shelters take care of over 1000 cats abandoned by families fleeing the war.
