COCA-COLA COMPANY TRIALS FIRST PAPER BOTTLE
Coca-Cola is to test a paper bottle as part of a longer-term bid to eliminate plastic from its packaging entirely.
The prototype is made by a Danish company from an extra-strong paper shell that still contains a thin plastic liner. But the goal is to create a 100% recyclable, plastic-free bottle capable of preventing gas from escaping carbonated drinks.
Many believe that the main reason Coca-Cola is doing this is to save face from their last year's fiasco. Last year Coca-Cola was ranked "the world's №1 plastic polluter" by a charity group "Break Free From Plastic".
The Paper Bottle Company, or Paboco, is the Danish firm behind the development of the paper-based container.
The technology is still very new, so Paboco didn't manage to fully remove plastic from their creation. This image gives a clear view of the plastic cap still in use.
